Communicating history through a blog

The Oberhaushof Exhibition brings together objects and stories from ten generations of the Bühler family that lived and worked on the Oberhaushof farm. Visitors immerse themselves in the diverse past of life on the shores of lake Zurich and get to know the men and women who shaped the fortunes of the farm and the family.

Since the exhibition is located on a private farm that serves a variety of purposes, it is only accessible via guided tours. To make the contents of the exhibition accessible to a wider audience and at the same time increase its visibility, the Oberhaushof Exhibition maintains a blog on its website, where it publishes regular posts on historic topics related to the exhibition.

In addition, the Oberhaushof Exhibition sends out a newsletter approximately four times a year featuring current tour offerings and news. The latest blog posts are also linked in the newsletter.

Copy that inspires a visit

Since 2020, I have been responsible for the Oberhaushof Exhibition’s blog, with the newsletter added in 2024. In both cases, I am responsible not only for the content but also for the concept, which I develop and implement in consultation with the exhibition team.

I write the majority of the texts myself, with occasional guest contributions that I edit. The goal of these texts is to provide insight into the exhibition while creating excitement about visiting. To achieve this, I don’t just write about the past – I draw connections to the present wherever possible. This makes it clear that the exhibition’s themes remain relevant today.

Through the blog and newsletter, the Oberhaushof Exhibition can share history with a broad audience and increase its visibility in the region and beyond. It maintains contact with existing visitors and partners while also attracting new visitors and supporters.

“Apart from people who have already attended a guided tour, the website, newsletter and blog are the most important calling card for our lean foundation. The quality of these channels is therefore of central importance to us. Jonas’ texts always get to the heart of the matter. They’re concise and enjoyable to read, and they perfectly embody our culture.”
